Tony and Grammy Award-winning stage adaptation of the iconic Buena Vista Social Club album, a musical journey through the music and memory of Havana.
Buena Vista Social Club comes to the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City for a week of performances from Tuesday, January 26, through Sunday, January 31, 2027. It's a Tony and Grammy Award-winning stage adaptation of the iconic Buena Vista Social Club album, and the production is billed as a journey through music and memory into the beating heart of Havana.
The story centers on Omara Portuondo, the legendary Cuban singer known as the 'Queen of Feeling.' Her voice was celebrated throughout Cuba until she vanished from the spotlight, and the plot follows the young record producer who brings her a rare opportunity to return. It's a tale of big dreams, second chances, and music that needs no translation, and The Washington Post called it a 'jaw-dropping, soul-stirring must see.'
Practical details: The show runs two hours and ten minutes with one intermission. It's recommended for ages 8 and up, and children under 5 aren't permitted. The staging includes smoke, haze, bright lights, and loud sounds, so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to any of them. The production plays in Delta Hall at the Eccles, 131 Main St.
