Monthly social session of easy Scandinavian folk dances, with instruction for beginners, on the fourth Monday of each month.
4th Monday Scandinavian Dance is back at the E. W. Garbett Center in Salt Lake City on Monday, October 26. It's exactly what it sounds like: a night of Scandinavian folk dancing, held on the fourth Monday of every month. If you've never done it before, don't let the name throw you—beginners are welcome, and instruction is provided at every session, with one or two dances taught in detail so you can get your footing before the room fills up.
The dancing mixes group dances with couples dances like the waltz, polka, schottische, and hambo. The group describes it as a fun, social, and moderately strenuous non-impact activity for all ages, so it's as much about the people as it is about the steps. If you're looking for something to do that gets you moving without being too hard on your joints, this is a good place to start.
This isn't a one-off, either. The group meets on the fourth Monday of each month and also on the second Saturday, with classes offered on the second and third Mondays when the mood takes them. It's part of a Salt Lake City performing arts scene that runs from small room shows to big Broadway productions at the Eccles Theater, alongside local fixtures like the Utah Symphony and Ballet West.
