Family-friendly Halloween adventure with immersive scenes, interactive storytelling and glowing displays at Red Butte Garden, based on the Peter Pan story.
Red Butte Garden and Arboretum is turning into a family-friendly Halloween adventure this month. The event is called Garden After Dark: Adventures in Neverland, and it runs from October 15 through October 30, 2026.
The whole thing is built around the story of Peter Pan: Captain Hook has captured and shrunk Peter, and Tinker Bell needs your help to rescue him. You wander through immersive scenes, interactive storytelling, and glowing displays, and as you go, you search for hidden Pixie Dust beads along the way. It's designed for families, so it's more about the magic and the story than anything scary.
If you've never spent much time there, Red Butte is the largest botanical garden in the Intermountain West. It's also a state arboretum, run together with the University of Utah. It sits on 100 acres in the foothills on the eastern edge of the university campus, with more than 21 acres of developed gardens and five miles of hiking trails through a Natural Area. It's been open since 1985 and runs as a nonprofit educational institution. It's known for its plant collections, its themed gardens, and for 590,000 springtime blooming bulbs—including a huge collection of daffodils. Beyond the gardens, it hosts a world-class outdoor summer concert series and award-winning horticulture-based educational programs.
