Free public concert of thesis choreography by the University of Utah School of Dance MFA candidates, with concert director Joselli Deans.
The University of Utah School of Dance is presenting its 2026-27 MFA Thesis Concert at the Marriott Center for Dance over three nights in February. The bill is made up of thesis choreography created by the program's MFA candidates, so the whole evening is built around new work from the students themselves. Concert Director Joselli Deans is leading the bill.
Because these are thesis pieces, the concert is a showcase of the choreography the candidates have spent their program developing. It's the kind of show where you see a handful of different voices on one stage rather than a single vision running through the night. If you've followed any of these dancers or choreographers through the program, this is the moment their work comes together in a full performance.
There are three chances to catch it: Thursday, Feb. 18 at 5:30 PM, Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 PM, and Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 PM. The early start on Thursday makes it a good option if you're coming straight from work, while the Friday and Saturday slots are better for a night out. The performances are free and open to the public, so you don't need a ticket to get in.
