Monthly series of short experimental works in music, dance, film and spoken word by local artists, each followed by a conversation with the artist.
12 Minutes Max returns to the Salt Lake City Public Library Main Branch on Sunday, November 15. It's a curated monthly performance series presented by the library, held on the third Sunday of each month, so if you miss this one, there's usually another just a few weeks later.
The format is pretty straightforward: local artists perform short, experimental works across a variety of media—music, dance, film, and spoken word—and each piece is followed by a brief conversation with the artist. The title gives it away: the pieces are kept short, and the Q&A lets you ask about the work right after you've seen it. Because it pulls from different disciplines, you might see a dancer, a filmmaker, and a musician all on the same bill.
The series is dedicated to the memory of Paul Reynolds, described as an artist, librarian, and patron of the arts. It's a fitting home for it, too—the Salt Lake City Public Library system has been around for over a century, with the Free Public Library of Salt Lake City first opening on February 14, 1898. Today it comprises the Main Library and five branches, directed by a library board and circulating more than three million items each year. Over the last decade, every location has been remodeled, expanded, or rebuilt to meet the city's growing needs.
