A nostalgia-packed Pops concert by the North Carolina Symphony that invites the audience to relive the 1980s with music from Blondie, Cher, George Michael, Michael Jackson and Kool & The Gang.
The North Carolina Symphony is taking over the Meymandi Concert Hall at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts for two nights of 80s pop, Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13, 2027. Both shows start at 8 PM. The program is a Pops concert built around the music of Blondie, Cher, George Michael, Michael Jackson and Kool & The Gang, with the symphony handling the arrangements and vocalists Aaron Finley and Nicole Parker on the singing. Stuart Chafetz is conducting.
It's a nostalgia trip that doesn't take itself too seriously. The symphony welcomes leg-warmers and Members Only jackets, and there's a costume contest in the mix, so you can lean into the era if you want to. On Friday night, student musicians play a pre-concert Ovations performance at 7:15 PM, which is a good reason to get there early. Doors open 90 minutes before the show, and the venue's age policy means every patron needs a ticket and must be able to sit quietly; children aged 2 and under aren't permitted.
