A guided walking tour exploring the inspiring stories of Raleigh's downtown Black history, beginning with a tour of the Dr. M.T. Pope House Museum.
The Raleigh Black History Walking Tour: Coffee and Donuts kicks off at the Dr. M.T. Pope House Museum on Saturday, October 24, from 2 PM to 5 PM. It's run by the Let's Get Social Raleigh Foundation, and the whole thing starts with a guided tour of the Pope House Museum itself, led by its manager, Hazel Boomer.
From there, the group heads out on foot through the Third Ward neighborhood, Black Wall Street, and the city's historic Black churches. The walk covers about 1.4 miles, with rest stops along the way, and it's designed to go beyond the usual Raleigh landmarks. Instead, it focuses on the people, places, and stories that shaped Black Raleigh, stopping at sites connected to Black life, leadership, culture, and community. The coffee and donuts are free, so you can fuel up before you set out.
