A free community salsa dance session with beginner-friendly lessons and live music, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
Oak City Salsa Social returns to Gipson Play Plaza on Wednesday, October 14, from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's part of a free community series celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, presented by the Oak City Music Collective as part of Dix Park's larger celebration of the month. The evening is built around two things: a beginner-friendly group dance lesson led by local instructors, followed by a live salsa orchestra playing under the open sky. The lesson is designed for all ages and experience levels, so you don't need a partner or any previous dancing to get involved.
That's the core of the nightβthe lesson gets you moving, and the live band takes over once the dancing starts. The whole thing is open to all ages, and since it's outdoors at the plaza, it's as much about the atmosphere as it is about the dancing. The series is made possible by Dix Park Conservancy donors, and the event is free to attend.
