Annual display of American flags honoring veterans on the Court of North Carolina, open to the public.
NC State is bringing its Salute to Veterans Flag Display back to the Court of North Carolina this November, running from Monday, November 2 through Monday, November 23. It's an annual tradition that takes over the Court for a few weeks, and it's open to the public throughout the whole run.
The display is a sea of American flags, and there's a specific reason for the scale: each flag represents a veteran within the NC State Wolfpack community. That community includes more than 1,000 veteran faculty, staff, and students, so when you see them all together, you're seeing a visual count of the veterans who work and study at the university. It's a simple, quiet way of making that number visible in the city.
The timing isn't random, either. The display is coordinated by the Jeffrey Wright Military and Veteran Services office as part of National Veterans and Military Families Month, which is observed every November. The flags stay up for nearly the entire month, so you've got plenty of time to stop by whenever you're near the Courtโwhether that's on a lunch break or a weekend stroll through downtown.
