Observation of live feeding of marine life in the Our Changing Oceans aquarium, meeting Living Collections staff.
The Nature Research Center is hosting a live animal feeding in the Our Changing Oceans aquarium on Wednesday, November 18, from 10:45 to 11:00 AM. It's a walk-up program, which means you just show up and watch—no registration required. If you can't make this one, the same session runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:45 AM.
The feeding happens inside Our Changing Oceans, a 10,000-gallon Living Collections aquarium. You stand on the floor of the exhibit and watch as the Living Collections staff feed the fish right in front of you. It's a short session—fifteen minutes—so it's easy to fit into a morning in downtown Raleigh. You also get to meet the staff who work with the animals every day, which is a nice touch if you've ever wondered who's actually behind the scenes.
As for what's in the tank, there's a fair variety of marine life on display. You'll see French and gray angelfish, Atlantic blue, ocean surgeon, and doctorfish tangs, and a few different kinds of grunts—bluestriped, French, and porkfish. There are balloonfish and lobsters in there too. Watching them eat is a different experience than just seeing them swim by, and it's a good way to get a closer look at the different species they keep.

The feeding is free and takes place on the first floor of the Nature Research Center, located at 11 West Jones Street in downtown Raleigh. It runs from 10:45 to 11:00 AM, and since it's a walk-up program, you don't need to book a spot in advance.
