A nostalgic symphonic concert featuring iconic hits from the 1960s and 1970s performed by the North Carolina Symphony with guest vocalists.
The North Carolina Symphony is bringing Legends of the 60s & 70s to the Meymandi Concert Hall at Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh on Friday, January 8 and Saturday, January 9, 2027. Both shows start at 8 PM. The program focuses on the hits that defined that era, with songs by Carole King, Joni Mitchell, The Eagles and The Mamas & the Papas. It's a symphonic take on the singer-songwriter sound of the 60s and 70s, with the full orchestra backing guest vocalists Rick Brantley, Sarah Darling and Jesse Nager. Sophie Mok conducts.
The concert is part of the symphony's 2026/27 Pops season, a series they describe as "the soundtrack of your life," built around music that's meant something to a lot of people. The season pulls from Broadway favorites, the biggest hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s, and Motown classics. This particular night stays in that California-cool territory, with the orchestral arrangements giving those familiar songs a different kind of energy than the original records.
