Concert by the folk-rock duo Indigo Girls, performing hits and new material from their 'Look Long' tour.
Indigo Girls play the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium on Thursday, November 5, as part of their Look Long tour. The duo is Emily Saliers and Amy Ray, who started playing clubs around their native Atlanta, Georgia, in the mid-1980s. Their 1989 major-label debut, Indigo Girls, sold more than two million copies and made them one of the most successful folk duos in history. Over more than thirty-five years, they've recorded sixteen studio albums and sold over 15 million records, earning several Grammys along the way.
Their latest record, Look Long, brought them back into the studio with their strongest backing band to date. The setlist is built around that new material, but it reaches back across their career, too — you'll hear hits like "Closer to Fine" alongside the newer songs. It's a full-career set, not just a new-album showcase.
Beyond the music, Saliers and Ray are active in a range of causes: immigration reform, LGBTQ advocacy, education, death penalty reform, and Native American rights. They co-founded Honor the Earth, a non-profit focused on sustainable Native communities and Indigenous environmental justice. That work has run alongside their recording career for decades.
