A symphonic tribute to the golden age of Broadway featuring songs from The Sound of Music, Oklahoma! and South Pacific, performed by the North Carolina Symphony.
The North Carolina Symphony brings A Rodgers & Hammerstein Celebration to the Meymandi Concert Hall at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh on Friday, April 2, 2027. It's a tribute to the songwriting duo behind some of the most recognizable musicals in Broadway history, and the symphony is treating the material with full orchestral weight rather than just a few arrangements.
Expect to hear songs from The Sound of Music, Oklahoma!, and South Pacific, among others. These are the kinds of melodies that have stayed in the public consciousness long after the shows left the stage, and hearing them played by a full symphony gives them a different kind of presence than you'll find on a cast recording. The concert is conducted by David Glover.
If you're planning to go, it's worth knowing that this is part of the symphony's 2026/27 Friday Favorites seasonโa series of matinees put together by Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto. The Rodgers and Hammerstein program sits alongside masterworks by Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven, so this is one of several chances to catch the symphony over the course of the season. If you're arriving early, there's a pre-concert Ovations performance by the NCSU Woodwind Quintet starting at 7:15 PM.

There are a few different ways to see it. The main Friday matinee is at 12 PM with a shorter program, but there's also an 8 PM performance that same evening, and two more on Saturday, April 3, at 3 PM and 8 PM. Every patron needs a ticket, and children aged 2 and under aren't permitted.
