The North Carolina Symphony performs Motown classics conducted by Sophie Mok, with vocalists Chester Gregory and Terron Brooks.
The North Carolina Symphony is bringing Dancing in the Street: The Music of Motown to Meymandi Concert Hall at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts, with three performances over two days: Friday, February 12, at 8 PM, and Saturday, February 13, at 3 PM and 8 PM. It's part of the Symphony's 2026/27 Pops season, and the timing puts it right on Valentine's Weekend.
The program takes Motown's greatest hits and runs them through a full orchestra. You'll hear classics from Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and The Temptations, with the Symphony providing the backing and two vocalists, Chester Gregory and Terron Brooks, taking the lead. Sophie Mok conducts. It's the kind of set where you'll recognize almost every song, but hearing them with a full string and brass section behind the singers changes the feel from the records.
Because it's a Pops concert, it's a bit more relaxed than a standard symphony night. The Symphony describes it as a date-night soundtrack for the weekend, and the three-show run gives you a few options to fit it in. If you're planning for Valentine's, the Friday night or Saturday evening shows are the obvious picks, while the Saturday matinee works if you'd rather keep your night open.
