Step inside a portable camera obscura to see the surrounding landscape projected in real time through a simple optical system, part of the Click! Photography Festival.
Camera Obscura is coming to Dix Park on Sunday, October 18, and again on Sunday, October 25. Both days it'll be at Harvey Hill, near the intersection of Umstead Drive and S. Boylan Avenue, from 11 AM to 2 PM. It's a portable camera obscura that projects the surrounding landscape in real time through a simple optical system, and they describe it as a blend of art, science and photography. You step inside and see the world outside cast onto the walls around you.
The installation is part of the Click! Photography Festival plein air exhibition, a public celebration of photography that each year invites artists from around the world to submit work for display. This year's contributors come from as many as seven countries across three continents. The festival is hosted in partnership with Raleigh Arts and Dix Park, and the exhibition runs for a full month, with the goal of bridging creative professionals and the broader community. Camera Obscura is one of the pieces you can visit during that time.

Since it's an outdoor, portable setup, it's something you can walk up to on your own terms rather than a formal gallery show. It's open on two Sundays in a row, so if you can't make the first one, you've got a second chance the following weekend. Both sessions run from 11 AM to 2 PM at Harvey Hill, near Umstead Drive and S. Boylan Avenue in Dix Park.
