The North Carolina Symphony, conducted by Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto, performs Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 as part of a season-long Beethoven festival.
The North Carolina Symphony is bringing Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 to the Meymandi Concert Hall at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh on Friday, February 19, and Saturday, February 20. Both shows start at 8 PM, so you've got two nights to choose from.
Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto is leading the orchestra, and he's joined by trumpet player Pacho Flores. The program doesn't stop at Beethoven. It opens with Revueltas' Homenaje a Federico García Lorca, followed by Arturo Márquez's Concierto de Otoño, before closing with the Symphony No. 5.
These two performances kick off a season-long festival celebrating Beethoven. Over five concerts, Prieto will lead the Symphony and a rotation of guest artists through Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 and Symphonies Nos. 5, 6, 7 and 9. The festival comes two centuries after the composer's death, and it frames his legacy as one that continues to move, uplift and inspire audiences worldwide.

If you want to get a bit more out of the evening, there's a free 30-minute pre-concert experience called Concert Insights, where you can hear from the guest artists and the Music Director before the music starts. A few practical things to keep in mind: every patron needs a ticket, and children aged 2 and under aren't permitted at Classical, Friday Favorites or Pops concerts. Tickets run from $44.77 to $114.77, and the hall is at 2 E. South St. in downtown Raleigh.
