A candlelight concert featuring Virtuosi Strings performing Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and La Follia in the historic setting of St Jude's Church.
Virtuosi Strings are playing Vivaldi's The Four Seasons at St Jude's Church on Saturday 10 October, as part of the Candlelight concert series. The whole thing is performed by candlelight, so the church is lit by candles rather than the usual house lights. It's a one-hour show, and the doors open 45 minutes before it starts.
The set is built around The Four Seasons (the Violin Concerto in G Minor, Op. 8), and the quartet plays through all four movements—Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter—before closing with La Follia. It's a good way to hear the whole cycle in one go, and La Follia is a nice addition to follow it.
There are a few practical things to keep in mind. The concert is for ages 8 and over, and anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult. Seating is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis within each zone, so if you're keen on a particular spot, it's worth getting there a bit early. There's no entry once the concert has started, so don't cut it too fine.
