Concert by singer-songwriter Katie Pruitt at Mississippi Studios, performing her new record 'Fools for the Fleeting'.
Katie Pruitt plays Mississippi Studios on Saturday, October 31, at 7 PM. She's a singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Athens, Georgia, now based in Nashville, and her work sits across Americana and indie folk.
This is her third full-length record. Her debut, Expectations (2020), documented growing up queer in the Christian South and earned her an Emerging Artist of the Year nomination from the Americana Music Association. She followed it with Mantras, an inward-looking sophomore album about gender identity, self-compassion, and the struggle for peace in chaotic times. Her new record, Fools for the Fleeting, reckons with the impermanence of being human, shifting between poetic observation and confessional storytelling as she confronts ecological anxiety, love's fragility, and the isolation of an increasingly digitized existence. The set will draw from that new material, and the older records that came before it.
Her career has been described as less than a decade old, and the three albums trace a clear line from the specific geography of the South to the more internal territory of identity and, most recently, to the broader, more existential questions of the new record. Between the two, there's a shift from the personal and the political toward the philosophical, with Fools for the Fleeting moving into the kind of territory that feels more universal: how we handle things that don't last, and how we find a way to live with that.
