Hillsdale Farmers' Market

Hillsdale Farmers' Market is back on Sunday, October 18, at its new home in the Ida B. Wells/Rieke Elementary School parking lot at 1405 SW Vermont St. It's a Sunday morning tradition that's been around for more than 20 years, and this season it's running weekly from April 12 through November 22, 2026. After that, it keeps going with a few more dates: December 6 and 20, January 10 and 24, February 7 and 21, and March 7 and 21, 2027.

If you've been following the market, you know it's a big operation. It draws over 70,000 visitors a year and partners with more than 70 local farms, with 50-plus local farmers and food artisans from Oregon and Southwest Washington on site. The selection covers just about everything you'd want for a kitchen: seasonal vegetables, fruits, meats, and cheeses, alongside honey, baked goods, specialty and ready-to-eat foods, native plants and herbs, and fresh and dried cut flowers.

There's a bit of a story behind the new spot, too. For over two decades, the market had a home in Hillsdale, but it faced losing its lease during the three-year modernization of Ida B. Wells High School, with construction expected to start in 2026. A 'Keep the Market in Hillsdale' campaign brought in hundreds of emails from shoppers and neighbors and earned backing from state leaders and district councillors. In the end, Portland Public Schools offered the Rieke Elementary end of the parking lot as a home, so the market stays in the neighborhood.

Beyond the shopping, there's a community side to it: the market provides over $25,000 annually in food assistance. It runs Sundays from 9 AM to 1 PM, so you can get your produce and get on with your day.
