Concert by the Los Angeles indie trio Automatic, supported by Donzii, at Mississippi Studios.
Automatic play Mississippi Studios on Sunday, October 11, with Donzii opening. The Los Angeles trio is touring new songs from their latest release, Is It Now?.
Automatic is made up of Izzy Glaudini on synths and lead vocals, Lola DompƩ on drums and vocals, and Halle Saxon on bass and vocals. Their second album, Excess, frames itself around the moment when the '70s underground met the corporate culture of the '80s, taking aim at corporate extravagance. The band wrote the record in retreats before sprint recording sessions with producer Joo Joo Ashworth, who has worked with Sasami and FROTH.
One of the songs from that record, "New Beginning," was inspired by the Swedish sci-fi film Aniara. It rejects the false hope of fleeing a scorched planet while the ultra-rich eye manned space travel. The band is touring new tunes from their latest release, Is It Now?, so you'll hear material from the new record alongside songs from Excess.
