A series of free live music sessions featuring local talent across blues, folk, jazz, soul and funk in the intimate setting of The Secret Garden at Royal William Yard.
Yard Sessions returns to Royal William Yard this Friday, 17 July, for the first of three dates this summer. It's an annual series of live music celebrating local talent, and for 2026 the sessions have moved to a new spot: The Secret Garden, a walled garden tucked behind Residence 1, just a few steps from the water. The remaining dates are Friday 14 August and Friday 11 September.
The Secret Garden is a proper hidden gem within the Yard, known for its intimate feel and good acoustics. From the garden steps, which they call 'the lookout', you get a clear view across Plymouth Sound, so the water is the backdrop for every set. The music covers a fair bit of ground — blues, folk, jazz, soul and funk — all played outdoors in a relaxed setting. If you're after something to do on a Friday evening, it's a good place to settle in and listen.

Le Vignoble, the independent wine bar on-site, runs a licensed bar inside the garden, so you can grab a drink without leaving the space. Entry is free, and the sessions run on Friday evenings from June through September. With the 17 July date coming up this Friday, there are two more to follow: 14 August and 11 September. The Secret Garden is behind Residence 1, PL1 3RP, right in the heart of Royal William Yard.
