A black comedy film directed by Anders Thomas Jensen, following two brothers on a chaotic quest to recover buried money, presented in Danish and Swedish with English subtitles.
The Last Viking opens at Plymouth Arts Cinema on Friday 24 July, running through to 30 July. It's a black comedy from Anders Thomas Jensen, set in Denmark and starring Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas.
The story follows Anker, a bank robber played by Kaas, who's just served fifteen years in prison. He's determined to get back the stolen money his brother Manfred, played by Mikkelsen, buried years ago. There's a catch, though: Manfred is in the middle of an identity crisis and is convinced he's John Lennon, so he can't remember where the fortune is hidden. The two set off on a chaotic hunt that ends up digging up old family secrets along the way. It runs 116 minutes and is shown in Danish and Swedish with English subtitles.
It's a double-bill of sorts in the cast, too. Mikkelsen and Kaas have worked together before, and Jensen is known for his dark, dry Danish humour, so if you've seen his other work, you'll have a good idea of where this is headed. The Arts Cinema is an independent venue that mixes world and live cinema with talks from international figures, and this fits right in with that.

Tickets are £9.50 standard, with matinees at £7.50 and over 66s at £8.50. Under 25s, students, AUP staff, and budget tickets are £5.00, and there's a £5.00 rate for Bringing in Baby and family screenings. Friends get a 10% discount and £6.50 on Tuesdays.
