Super Nature

Super Nature is showing at Plymouth Arts Cinema across three dates this September: Saturday 19th at 2:30pm, Wednesday 23rd at 8:00pm, and Thursday 24th at 6:00pm. It's the award-winning debut feature from director Ed Sayers, a 2025 UK documentary that runs for 82 minutes. Sayers describes it as a visceral, poetic, and personal meditation on our universal connection to the natural world, and the way he went about making it is a good part of the story.

Rather than filming everything himself, Sayers collaborated with 40 different people and shot on 80 antique Super 8 cameras across land, in the air, and underwater. The idea was that each person could tell the story of the nature closest to them and their heart, with as little travel as possible. The New Scientist called the result 'ravishing and unpredictable'. It's a PG film, and it's being screened at the cinema of Arts University Plymouth, on Tavistock Place.

There are a few different ways to see it, depending on when you can make it. The matinee on Saturday 19th at 2:30pm has descriptive subtitles, so that's the one to go for if you need them. The other two are evening screenings: Wednesday 23rd at 8:00pm and Thursday 24th at 6:00pm.

Tickets are £9.50 standard, with matinees at £7.50 and over-66s at £8.50. There's a £5.00 ticket for under-25s, students, AUP staff, and those on a budget (unwaged or low income), and Bringing in Baby and Family screenings are also £5.00. Friends get a 10% discount and £6.50 tickets on Tuesdays. Companions, personal assistants, or carers accompanying disabled customers or CEA card holders get in free. Online bookings add a £1.50 booking fee per transaction, which is waived for members.
