SOAK Live Art: An Experimental Performance Night

SOAK Live Art is putting on an experimental performance night at The House on Saturday 17 October, with five new pieces running across sound, movement and light. The whole evening is built around the body, work and weather in uncertain times, and it's a local line-up: all five performers are based here in Plymouth.

There's a good bit of ground to cover across the five slots. NooN Collective brings St0rm, an experimental piece that pulls in music, dance, projection, generative visuals and material practices to amplify the more-than-human. Claudia Jefferies performs WORK, and as a Plymouth-based theatre maker, writer and performer, her work tends to critique everyday social injustices. Laura Denning presents A Tarot of the Weather; she's a transdisciplinary artist and academic whose practice merges geography and ecology, with a particular focus on watery relationality and climate change. Dong Yue brings Silk-like Body, and as a dance researcher and choreographer specialising in Chinese Classical Dance, she's currently completing a PhD in Dance at the University of Plymouth. Gaia Blandina rounds it out with a sonic journey; she's a cellist, interdisciplinary sound artist and Lecturer in Music at Falmouth University, specialising in free improvisation and contemporary music.

Between them, they're working across sound, movement and light, so you'll see dance, hear improvised cello, and watch projection and generative visuals all in one night. The common thread is that focus on the body, work and weather, and each piece takes its own angle on it. It's an evening of five new performances rather than a single show, so you'll see five different artists working in their own way.
