Screening in association with 37 Looe Street's Bathing Places exhibition

Plymouth Arts Cinema is hosting a special screening on Saturday 26 September, bringing together the films from 37 Looe Street's Bathing Places exhibition. The session closes the exhibition, which curators Angela Piccini and Sefryn Penrose built around artists' films exploring watery worlds and bodies in water. The programme gathers every film shown in the exhibition, so it's a chance to see them all in one sitting rather than scattered across the gallery.

The line-up includes Rachael Allain's Double Equinox (2025), Molly Burrows' Moving with the Sun (2026), Laura Denning's Complicit (2016) and Liquid Song (2015), Bryony Gillard's Heatwave (2025), Sadie Hennesey's The Parade (2025), William Luz's A Line Made While Swimming (2026), and Sefryn Penrose and Angela Piccini's Forty Suit/e (2017/2026). The session opens with an introduction from the curators, who are also co-directors of the Bureau for the Contemporary and Historic (ButCH) and of 37 Looe Street itself, an artist-led gallery and studio in Plymouth.

The main draw is the first screening of Geography of an Archive, a feature-length documentary in progress by Vesna Lukic and Nicole Khayat. It's about the Khayat family archive of twentieth-century life in Haifa, Palestine, whose painting and archival work are among the pieces in the exhibition. The documentary is a work in progress, so this is one of its earliest public showings.

Tickets are £9.50 standard, £7.50 for matinees, and £8.50 for over 66s. Under 25s, students, AUP staff, and those on a budget (unwaged or low income) pay £5.00, as do those attending Bringing in Baby and family screenings. Friends get a 10% discount and £6.50 on Tuesdays. Companions, personal assistants, carers accompanying disabled customers, and CEA card holders get in free. Online bookings add a £1.50 fee per transaction, which is waived for members. If you want to see the exhibition before it closes, it runs Thursday to Saturday, 11-5, until 26 September.
