Rose of Nevada live score screening

The Pit Orchestra are taking over The House at the University of Plymouth on Saturday 18 July for a night of live score screenings. The main event is Rose of Nevada, the new film from BAFTA winner Mark Jenkin, who's known for Bait and Enys Men. He'll be there in person, performing the score live alongside Dion Star of The Cornish Sound Unit.

Rose of Nevada is a Cornwall-based maritime mystery drama, shot on 16mm film. Jenkin describes the use of film as a way to evoke the materiality of haunting, and the plot fits that mood: thirty years ago, the Rose of Nevada disappeared at sea, and now it's come back. It's the kind of story that works best when you can see the grain of the film and hear the music being made in the room with you, rather than just listening to a recording.

There's a second film on the bill too. The Pit Orchestra will perform the score to The Creek, a short film from Deadlake Films, which runs as support before the main feature. So you'll get two live scores in one evening, one short and one feature, both performed right there in the room.

It's a Saturday night at The House, with Jenkin and Star on the main bill and The Pit Orchestra handling the support. If you've seen Bait or Enys Men, you'll know the kind of territory Jenkin works in, and this is his latest piece of it.
