NT Live screening of the film directed by Marianne Elliott, with Lesley Manville and Aidan Turner, based on Christopher Hampton's adaptation of the classic novel.
Plymouth Arts Cinema is screening Les Liaisons Dangereuses as part of NT Live, with a matinee on Saturday 4 July at 2:00pm and two more on Wednesday 8 July at 2:30pm and 7:00pm. It's a National Theatre production filmed live on stage and brought to the big screen, so you get the full stage show without having to make the trip to London.
BAFTA Award-winner Lesley Manville, whom you might know from Phantom Thread, takes the lead as the Marquise de Merteuil, and she's joined by Aidan Turner, who's recently been in Rivals. They're working from Christopher Hampton's celebrated adaptation of the classic novel, and the whole thing is directed by Marianne Elliott, who did Angels in America.
The story is set among the glittering salons of the super-rich, where one misstep can mean ruin. It follows the Marquise de Merteuil, a master in the art of survival, and the magnetic Vicomte de Valmont, as they turn seduction into strategy and weaponise desire. Their alliance eventually collapses into rivalry, threatening to destroy everyone in their path. The production is described as a thrilling game of love, lies, and social warfare.
