Just An Illusion (12A)

Just An Illusion opens at Plymouth Arts Cinema on Friday 25 September, with screenings running through to Thursday 1 October. It's a French film from 2026, directed by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, and it runs for 116 minutes in French with English subtitles.

The story is set in the suburbs of Paris in 1985 and follows Vincent, who's almost thirteen. He's caught between an older brother who brushes him off and parents who never stop arguing. Not quite a kid but not yet an adult, he fumbles through life's big questions: identity, friendship, family, first crushes, and why adults don't seem to have things figured out either. It's that awkward, in-between age where everything feels a bit too much and nothing quite makes sense.

On screen, Louis Garrel leads the cast alongside Camille Cottin, Simon Boublil and Pierre Lottin. The film is 116 minutes long, and as it's a French production, it plays in the original French with English subtitles.

There are five screenings in total: Friday 25 September at 6pm; Tuesday 29 September at 8.30pm; Wednesday 30 September at 2.30pm and 6pm; and Thursday 1 October at 8.30pm. Standard tickets are £9.50, with matinees at £7.50, over 66s at £8.50, and under 25s, students, AUP staff and budget tickets at £5.00. Baby and family screenings are also £5.00. Friends get a 10% discount and pay £6.50 on Tuesdays. Tickets are free for companions, personal assistants or carers accompanying disabled customers or CEA card holders.
