Film screening of Jo in the Water followed by a Q&A with artists from Take A Part's There Is No New Water project.
Plymouth Arts Cinema is screening Jo in the Water on Saturday 18 July, from 14:30 to 16:00, with a Q&A to follow. The film is hosted by Take A Part, and the whole thing sits within the wider Ocean Cultures programme running across the city.
Jo in the Water follows Jo Bateman, an Exmouth-based sea swimmer and reluctant activist, as she takes on one of the UK's biggest water companies in a David-and-Goliath battle to protect our waters from sewage pollution. It's a look at the state of the water system and a question of who will stand up for the right to swim in clean natural waters. Along the way, it features Jeremy Vine, Jim Murray MBE, and Chris Packham.
Once the credits roll, the cinema stays open for a Q&A with artists from Take A Part's There Is No New Water - Toolkit For Ocean Citizen Action project, led by artist Owen Griffiths. The project is part of the Ocean Cultures programme here in Plymouth and puts art and co-creation at the heart of civic and environmental action, with support from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. It's a chance to hear from the people working on the project and to talk through the themes the film brings up.
