Guiding Lights Farewell Exhibition

Guiding Lights is coming to a close with a farewell exhibition at Market Hall in Devonport, running from 25 to 27 September. It's the final stop for the art trail that's been scattered across Plymouth this summer, and it brings the whole collection together under one roof for one weekend.

If you've been following the trail, you'll know the scale of it: over 40 lighthouse sculptures, each 2.4 metres tall, each one designed by a professional artist. They've spent the season dotted around the city's streets and waterfront, and the farewell exhibition is the first time you can see them all in one place. The lighthouse is a nod to Plymouth's maritime history, and the project describes it as a symbol of hope and safety.

There's a younger side to it too. The 'Little Lights' schools project saw local students making their own versions, and those sit alongside the main trail. The whole thing was produced in partnership with Wild in Art, and it's all for St Luke's Hospice Plymouth, which provides end-of-life care across the region. The trail has been about raising awareness and funds for that work, and the exhibition is the final chapter before the sculptures are sold at a grand auction to raise more.
