Battle of the Bands kicks off tonight, Friday 31 July, at the Maritime Inn, and it's the start of a run to find Plymouth's top rock band. The whole thing is built around four heats, each one a separate night of bands going head-to-head, with the winners from those heats moving through to a final on 28 August. Tonight is the first of those heats, so it's the first chance to see who's in the running.
Because it's a competition, the format is straightforward: bands play their sets, and the best of the night takes the spot in the final. The heats run over the coming weeks, so if you can't make tonight, there are three more before the final. The final itself is on 28 August, when the winners from each heat meet to decide who takes the title. It's a rock contest through and through, so you'll be hearing bands from across the city competing for the top spot.
