Half-hour radio preview on WQED-FM of Pittsburgh Opera's new production of Gluck's opera Orpheus & Eurydice, hosted by Anna Singer.
WQED is running a preview of Orpheus & Eurydice on WQED-FM 89.3 on Saturday, November 7, at 12:30 PM. It's a half-hour broadcast hosted by WQED's Anna Singer, and it's one of two previews that air before the production opens. The show is a look at Pittsburgh Opera's first-ever staging of Orpheus & Eurydice, which arrives as part of the company's 2026-27 season.
The story is the one you probably already know: the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, a tale that's been retold across centuries. Virgil and Ovid both wrote full versions back in the 1st century BCE, and more recently, the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Hadestown brought it back into the conversation. This production uses Christoph Willibald Gluck's 1774 French version of the score, which was later re-orchestrated by Hector Berlioz in 1859. The opera is sung in French with English supertitles, and it features original choreography with four dancers from Attack Theatre.

If you're not usually an opera person, this is a good way to get a handle on what to expect before the curtain goes up. The preview lets you hear the music and get the context of the production from your living room, and since it's on the radio, you don't have to go anywhere to catch it. It's on WQED-FM 89.3 on Saturday, November 7, at 12:30 PM.
