Musical comedy show celebrating Tom Lehrer's satirical songs, created and performed by Andrew Lloyd Baughman.
Andrew Lloyd Baughman brings Tom Lehrer Is Alive And Well And Has Given Away All Rights To His Music to Three Stories this weekend, with performances on Friday, October 16, Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18. It's a musical comedy show built around the satirical songs of Tom Lehrer, the mathematician turned songwriter who spent the 1950s and 60s poking fun at everything from nuclear war to the American education system.
Baughman doesn't just walk out and sing the songs. He performs as Professor Charles Chucklenut, a deranged academic defending a dissertation on Lehrer's ongoing relevance. The show runs about 60 minutes and works its way through nearly 20 of Lehrer's most iconic songs, including "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park," "National Brotherhood Week," "I Wanna Go Back to Dixie," and "The Masochism Tango." If you've only ever heard the hits, it's a good chance to hear the deeper cuts alongside the ones that made him famous.
This isn't a brand-new production. It debuted at Don't Tell Mama in New York City in November 2024, where Cabaret Scenes called Baughman "a skilled interpreter." From there, it sold out every performance of its Capital Fringe run, which DC Theatre Arts named "Best of the Fest," and toured through the summer of 2025, stopping in New York City, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Wilmington, Jacksonville, and Orlando. This is one of those shows that's been out on the road for a while, so the timing and the character are well-worn in.
