Stage version of The Who's rock opera 'Tommy', with music and lyrics by Pete Townshend and direction by Des McAnuff, at the Benedum Center.
The Who's Tommy plays the Benedum Center from May 18 to 23, 2027, as part of the PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh season. It's the stage version of the rock opera The Who released in 1969, with music and lyrics by Pete Townshend and direction by Tony Award winner Des McAnuff. The production pairs the original rock sound with dynamic choreography and striking visuals, and it leans on anthems like "Pinball Wizard," "I'm Free," "See Me, Feel Me," and "Sensation."
The story follows young Tommy Walker, who withdraws from the world after witnessing his father shoot his rival. He's later propelled to celebrity by an innate knack for pinball, a journey that touches on trauma, isolation, fame, and redemption. The show runs 100 minutes with no intermission and is recommended for ages 16 and up, following the production's Broadway revival in 2024.
Collin Matthew Flanagan plays Tommy Walker, with Zach Fogel as Captain Walker, Mia Bergstrom as Mrs. Walker, Peyton Cassity as Uncle Ernie, Kyle McFalls as Cousin Kevin, Kris Lyons as the Acid Queen, Audrey Fisher as Sally Simpson, and Mari Grossmann as Little Tommy.
