Ballet program of world premieres by Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, including a world premiere by choreographer Omar Román de Jesús.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre is bringing Spring Mix: World Premieres to the August Wilson Cultural Center from Friday, April 9, through Sunday, April 11, 2027. It's a world premiere ballet program, which means you're seeing work that hasn't been staged anywhere else yet. The headline of the bill is a world premiere by choreographer Omar Román de Jesús, so the whole evening is built around new material rather than the usual classics.
Having a world premiere as the centerpiece changes the energy of a night like this. Instead of a familiar story or a piece of repertoire the company has done before, you're watching a new work make its first appearance. Román de Jesús is the one behind that premiere, and since it's part of a larger program of world premieres, the whole bill is new territory for the company.
The venue is the August Wilson African American Cultural Center at 980 Liberty Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh. It's a modern space that houses multiple exhibition galleries, an education center for classes and lectures, and a 492-seat theater for performances across all genres. That theater is where the ballet happens, and since it's a relatively small room, you'll be close to the stage for the whole thing. The center is owned by the non-profit of the same name, and it's a hub for community programs and events as much as it is a performance space.
