Evening of astronomy with a 'Stars Over Pittsburgh' planetarium show, hands-on space activities and stargazing from the observatory deck.
SkyWatch: Life on Moons is at the Buhl Planetarium and Observatory on Saturday, October 24, from 9 to 11 PM. It's part of the center's SkyWatch series, which they pitch as one of the most unique astronomy shows in Pittsburgh because it's built around one-on-one time with their experts across the planetarium, a private observatory deck, and professional telescopes like the Meade LX200 ACF.
The night starts with a custom 30-minute Stars Over This Pittsburgh planetarium show, and this particular session focuses on how NASA searches for life on moons. After the show, the evening moves into hands-on space activities—this time building a spacecraft—and then opens up for stargazing from the observatory deck, with the center's robot, Quasi, guiding the way. The whole thing is presented with support from PPG.

It's open to all ages, so it works as a family outing as much as a night for anyone with a casual interest in space. You'll need a separate ticket, and there are no walk-up sales, so you'll want to book ahead rather than showing up on the night. The session runs rain-or-shine unless weather conditions are deemed unsafe. It's on the second floor of the Buhl Planetarium and Observatory, 1 Allegheny Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, from 9 to 11 PM on Saturday, October 24.
