Free R.W. Moriarty Science Seminar in which Dr. Morag Kersel and Dr. Meredith Chesson discuss Early Bronze Age pottery from the Dead Sea Plain.
Dr. Morag Kersel and Dr. Meredith Chesson are coming to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History on Thursday, March 11, 2027, for a talk on Early Bronze Age pottery from the Dead Sea Plain. It's part of the R.W. Moriarty Science Seminar series, the museum's speaker program for nature, culture, and the future of life on Earth. The format is pretty straightforward: you listen to the researchers and then get to engage with them directly, rather than just sitting through a lecture.
The topic takes you back to the Early Bronze Age in the Dead Sea Plain, and the focus is on the pottery from that region. Kersel and Chesson will be the ones walking you through it, so you'll hear the details straight from the people doing the work. If you've ever wondered how a few pieces of ancient pottery can tell a larger story about a place and a time, this is exactly where you'll find out.
To give you a bit more context, the R.W. Moriarty Science Seminar is the Carnegie's dedicated program for bringing in academic researchers, museum professionals, and other experts to talk about their work. It's sponsored by Highmark, and the whole point is that you get to hear from people who live and breathe these subjects. The seminar is held in the Art Theater, but if you can't make it into the museum, there's also a Zoom stream so you can tune in from home.
