Free weekly art class for children ages 4 to 7, taught by local professional artists at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Homewood.
ProjectArt Pittsburgh is running free weekly art classes for kids ages 4 to 7 at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Homewood, 7101 Hamilton Ave. They're taught by local professional artists, so your kids get to work with people who actually make a living from their art rather than just a volunteer or a part-time instructor. It's a good way for the younger ones to get their hands dirty and start making things without any pressure.
The classes run on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 PM, and they kicked off the week of September 29, 2026. Since it's a weekly thing, it's more of a routine than a one-off workshop—something that fits into the after-school gap when you're just trying to keep them occupied until dinner. And because it's free, it's an easy one to try out without worrying about the cost.
ProjectArt has set up shop inside the Carnegie Library system, which has its own history. These libraries were part of the first public library system funded by Andrew Carnegie in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and they're known for their architecture and for keeping their doors open to everyone. ProjectArt says that fits their own mission: creating welcoming spaces for historically underrepresented communities, including the city's growing immigrant and refugee populations. It's a nice match—a program for kids in a library that's meant for the whole neighborhood.

One thing to keep in mind: admissions are first-come, first-served, and each class takes a maximum of 15 students. If you're planning to go, it's worth getting there a little early to make sure your kid gets a spot. The classes are Wednesdays from 4 to 5 PM at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Homewood, and they're free for children ages 4 to 7.
