Free talk by the Pittsburgh Opera company introducing the composer, the story and details of the opera to all ticketholders, held one hour before each performance.
Pittsburgh Opera is holding a Pre-Opera Talk at the Pittsburgh CAPA School Theater on Sunday, January 31, 2027, starting at 1 PM. The theater is part of the Benedum Center downtown, so it's right in the heart of the city. If you've already got tickets for the performance, this is a free add-on that happens an hour before the curtain goes up.
The talk is led by the company and is designed to get you oriented before the show starts. They'll introduce the composer, walk through the story, and share some of the juicier details about the opera—the kind of background that helps you follow the plot and pick up on things you might otherwise miss. It's a good way to settle in and get your bearings so you can focus on the music once the lights go down.
This is part of Outside the Salon, a series the company uses to bring opera out of traditional venues and into unexpected spaces across Pittsburgh. The Pre-Opera Talks are a regular feature of that: they happen before every Pittsburgh Opera performance at the Benedum Center and the Byham Theater, so if you're going to a show at either place, there's usually one of these waiting for you an hour before the start.

It's free for all ticketholders, so if you're already coming to the performance, you can just show up early and join in. The talk is at 1 PM at the Pittsburgh CAPA School Theater, an hour before the curtain.
