The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performs John Williams' score live to the film 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1'.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is bringing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 to Heinz Hall on Friday, October 30, and again on Sunday, November 1. It's a film concert, which means the movie plays on the big screen while the orchestra performs John Williams' score live in the room. If you've seen the film before, you know the music is a huge part of it, and hearing it from a full orchestra instead of through speakers changes the whole thing.
The program is exactly that: the PSO playing the score for The Deathly Hallows Part 1 in sync with the film. John Williams wrote the music for the entire series, and this is the first half of the final story, so the score carries a lot of the weight. The orchestra follows the action on screen, hitting the cues and the themes as they happen, so the music and the movie move together in real time.

There are two chances to catch it over the weekend. The first is Friday, October 30, at 7 PM, and the second is Sunday, November 1, at 2:30 PM. If you're a fan of the series, the Sunday matinee might be the easier one to work around. Both are at Heinz Hall in downtown Pittsburgh.
