Annual runway show 'Head Over Heels' by Pittsburgh Opera, blending couture from women-owned brands with opera and movement for International Women's Day.
Pittsburgh Opera brings back its annual fashion show on Monday, March 15, 2027, at the Bitz Opera Factory on Liberty Avenue. This year's edition is titled Head Over Heels, and it's staged by Richard Parsakian. The runway features local and national women-owned brands and designers, and the whole thing is timed to mark International Women's Day by putting those designers center stage.
Parsakian bills this one as "Fashion Theatre," and it's more of a performance than a standard runway walk. He's blending couture with opera and movement, with dancers, actors, and figures from Pittsburgh's arts community taking part. The clothing comes from the Eons Archives, Parsakian's collection at 5850 Ellsworth Avenue, which holds vintage clothing and accessories from the 1880s through the 1980s. It's a deep archive, and the show pulls from it to build the night.
If you've followed this event in previous years, you know it usually traces a century or more of style. In 2025, Threads of Destiny paid tribute to operatic masterpieces like Madama Butterfly. Back in 2022, Diva Dreams and Fashion Queens showed over a hundred years of fashion originals, including pieces by Karl Lagerfeld, Thierry Mugler, Halston, Claire McCardell, and Norman Norrell. Head Over Heels continues that tradition of mixing opera with a wide span of fashion history.
