The annual Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race, the largest 10K race in Pennsylvania, with a 5K and Junior Great Race.
The Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race returns to Pittsburgh on September 25-26, 2027. It's the largest 10K race in Pennsylvania, and it's run as a full weekend of activity rather than just a single morning. The main event is the 10K, but there's also a 5K run/walk, a running clinic, the Great Race Expo, and an awards ceremony and raffle on Sunday.
The race has a long history here. It started in 1977 when then-Mayor Richard S. Caliguiri established it as a "community fun run," and nearly half a million people have taken part since. The youth event, the Dollar Bank Junior Great Race, is in its 32nd annual edition. Between the 10K, the 5K, and the Junior race, there's something for a few different speeds and ages across the two days.
There's a charitable side to it, too. The race donates $1 from every Great Race and Dollar Bank Junior Great Race registration to the Richard S. Caliguiri Amyloidosis Fund at the Pittsburgh Foundation, which supports medical research. Local organizations like Highmark, Allegheny Health Network, Dollar Bank, Eat'n Park, and Pittsburgh Regional Transit sponsor the event.
