Town hall meeting at the William Pitt Union to review the university's climate action plan and gather the campus community's ideas on climate change.
The Pitt Climate Action Town Hall is happening at the William Pitt Union on Wednesday, October 21, from 7 PM to 8 PM. It's a session for the campus community to get a look at the university's climate plan and its progress toward a 2037 goal of becoming carbon neutral. The university first made that pledge in 2020, and in 2022 it published its first Climate Action Plan, with progress tracked annually through the Pitt Greenhouse Gas Inventory. The town hall is a chance to hear where things stand and to share your own thoughts on how Pitt should act on climate change.
The meeting falls within Campus Sustainability Month, which runs throughout October and is hosted each year by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) to celebrate sustainability achievements in higher education. Pitt's own environmental record goes back to 1990, when the university began recycling. Its current targets include cutting landfill waste by 25% from 2017 levels by 2030 and slashing greenhouse gas emissions by half from the 2008 baseline by that same year.
