Halloween-themed visit to the National Aviary with crafts, treats, a Sp-OO-ky Meet and Greet with nocturnal birds and bat encounters, included with general admission.
Owl-O-Ween is back at The National Aviary this October, running across two weekends: Saturday and Sunday, October 17-18 and 24-25, from 11 AM to 3 PM. It's a Halloween-themed take on a day at the Aviary, which is an AZA-accredited zoo and aquarium in Pittsburgh that pairs immersive habitats with animal ambassadors.
The whole thing is billed as a family-friendly alternative to trick-or-treating. Instead of going door-to-door, kids collect Halloween treats at various activities throughout the day. There's a craft station where they can make their own project, and a 'Sp-OO-ky Meet and Greet' with the Aviary's nocturnal neighbors. The theme is the hidden secrets of nocturnal birds during hooting season, so it's a good excuse to get the kids interested in the birds that usually stay out of sight. Costumes are encouraged, so it's the kind of afternoon where you can lean into the holiday without the usual neighborhood trek.

It's set up for adults and kids to explore together, so it works as a family outing rather than just a drop-off for the little ones. The Aviary is at 700 Arch St in Pittsburgh, and the event runs from 11 AM to 3 PM on all four dates. It's included with general admission, so if you're already planning a visit, you've got this as part of the ticket.
