Author Theresa Brown talks about her book 'The Cost of Care' and the nurses behind it in a conversation with Neal Bisno.
Theresa Brown will be at Alphabet City on Monday, October 26, to talk about her book The Cost of Care: How Four Nurses Put Patients First in a Profit-Driven System. She'll be in conversation with Neal Bisno, so it's a dialogue rather than a lecture.
Brown spent years working as an oncology nurse before she burned out. Instead of walking away from healthcare entirely, she decided to look for the places where it was actually working. That search became the basis for the book, which centers on four nurses working across four different sectors of a broken system. By looking at their experiences, she tries to figure out where the real solutions lie.
It's the kind of conversation that hits home if you've ever felt the friction of the healthcare system from the insideโwhether you've worked in it or just navigated it as a patient. The talk is presented by City of Asylum, the Pittsburgh organization that works to build a just community by protecting and celebrating freedom of creative expression.
