Annual Halloween celebration exploring Warhol's darker side with a DJ set, tarot readings, live poetry and theremin performance; over 21s only.
The Andy Warhol Museum brings back its annual Halloween celebration, Night of Death and Disaster, on Friday, October 23, from 8 PM to midnight. It's an over-21s night, and the museum describes it as an invitation to dive into Warhol's darker side and turn up in your best macabre couture.
The title comes from Warhol's Death and Disaster series, where he took images from journalistic contexts and reframed them through repetition. Some of those source images depict horrific scenes, while others lean on a narrative of death and disaster—the Electric Chair and Jackie series are two examples. In all of them, the repetition mirrors the repetition Warhol saw in society, driven by media and technology. The party takes that mood and runs with it, and the museum's underground studio will house a screen-printing station alongside the party.
There's a full program running throughout the night. Second Skin—Erica Scary and Huck Finn—will be on the decks, and tarot readings will be handled by Three3Three and Pgh Astrology. Sprouts of Consciousness will be typing spooky poems live, and Ben Opie will perform on the theremin up on the sixth floor. Floral arrangements for the evening come from greenSinner.
