Free outdoor public art exhibition by Mikael Owunna and Marques Redd, co-founders of Rainbow Serpent, featuring a monumental sculpture of the solar god Ra at Arts Landing.
Mikael Owunna and Marques Redd bring This is the Body of the Sun to Arts Landing starting Wednesday, April 29, 2028. It's a monumental sculpture of the solar god Ra, drawn from ancient Egyptian myth and rooted in geometry, cosmology, and vibrational practice. The exhibition runs through Wednesday, May 31, with the sculpture on view daily from 7 AM to 10 AM.
Owunna and Redd are the co-founders of Rainbow Serpent, the studio behind the piece. Owunna is a Nigerian-American multimedia artist, filmmaker, engineer, and Fulbright Scholar, and he serves as President of the City of Pittsburgh's Public Art & Civic Design Commission; his work revives African cosmologies and futurist frameworks. Redd is a multimedia artist and traditional African cosmologist who revives the lineage of queer African 'gatekeepers'—spirit workers who channel both masculine and feminine energies to connect the physical and spiritual realms.
The work is presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and Rainbow Serpent at Arts Landing, 803 Penn Ave, a site that weaves six distinct public artworks throughout its grounds, turning paths, gathering places, and open views into moments of reflection, play, and connection. This is the Body of the Sun is the latest addition to that collection.
