Guided walking tour of The Frick Pittsburgh's grounds to explore the seasonal cycles of its trees, part of the Living Collection Series.
The Frick Pittsburgh is hosting Life Cycle of Trees on Wednesday, October 28, as part of its Living Collection Series. It's a guided tour of the estate's grounds, and the focus is on the seasonal cycles trees go through every year. Since it's late October, the timing works well—you'll be walking through the property just as the autumn colors are in full swing.
The tour is about half a mile long, and the grounds it covers are more than just a backdrop. The Frick is an accredited arboretum, which means it's a curated collection of trees and shrubs rather than just a random mix of what happened to grow there. Along the way, you'll see dozens of different varieties, alongside the estate's decorative and vegetable gardens and its historic greenhouse. The tour is designed to turn that collection into a classroom, with the walk itself serving as the lesson.
It's part of the Living Collection Series, which is an ongoing program at the Frick that uses the grounds for walks, tours, lectures, and other events. The goal is to get people out on the property and connected to the plants and the landscape. If you've spent time at the Frick before, you know the grounds are a huge part of the experience, and this is one of the ways they open them up for a closer look.
