Virtual summit on childhood lead poisoning with a keynote from the CDC and panels on lead exposure prevention in Allegheny County.
Life Without Lead 2026 is a virtual summit running on Thursday, October 29, from 9 AM to 12 PM. It's put on by Lead Safe Allegheny, an organization working to make sure children and families in Allegheny County live, learn, and grow in lead-safe environments. The summit is part of their broader Life Without Lead initiative, and it's billed as two days of inspiration and action.
Lead is something that can be found in paint, dust, soil, and water in homes and other spaces, and the organization focuses on primary prevention policies, identifying and remediating lead hazards, and protecting children from the lifelong effects of exposure. The summit brings together speakers and experts to address childhood lead poisoning and lead exposure right here in the county. Attendees will hear from speakers, take part in discussions, and look at ways to get lead out of their lives.
On the program is keynote speaker Dr. Paul Allwood, Branch Chief for the Lead Poisoning Prevention and Surveillance Branch at the CDC's National Center for Environmental Health. He'll be joined by panels that include Mike Totoraitis, Commissioner of the Milwaukee Health Department, and Virginia Renner, owner of Pittsburgh Lead Testing Services. The summit is supported by The Heinz Endowments and the Great Lakes Lead Elimination Network.
