An introductory mime workshop led by MimeCandy, exploring secular gospel mime, object work and lyrical movement in a queer-friendly space.
MimeCandy is leading an intro to mime workshop at Level Up Studios on Sunday, October 18, from 2 PM to 5 PM. It's a three-hour session, and you don't need any previous experience to join in.
The class draws on secular gospel mime, a practice that uses movement to illuminate a vocalist's story, message, and artistic intention. It's built as a playful, queer-friendly space for curiosity, vulnerability, and connection. The session moves through a few different stages: it starts with mime history and warm-ups, then goes into games, object work, classical illusions, and lyrical movement. The goal is to help you develop a stronger sense of physical presence and nonverbal expression.
MimeCandy is the stage name of Candace Walker, a Pittsburgh-based mime performer who specializes in queer-friendly secular gospel mime, street mime, and lyrical movement. This is her home turf, so if you've been curious about mime but didn't know where to start, this is a good place to get your feet wet.
